Dermot F. Geoghegan Architects have for many years had a great interest in & commitment to the advancement of low energy & sustainable design. Having completed a Masters Degree in Advanced Environmental & Energy Studies in Architecture in London in 1992, the principal Dermot Geoghegan has pursued this aspect of architecture with great enthusiasm & innovation. Many projects with which this practice has been involved over the years have had at their core a desire to integrate thoughtful low energy design and environmental considerations within the design process and an awareness of how such considerations in the longer term give rise to greater energy, environmental, financial, & comfort benefits.
In our view the integration of key sustainability considerations at the earliest possible stage of the design process is of major importance in pursuing any design brief.
A primary consideration in the design of any structure is the manner in which it is insulated. We always therefore attempt to ensure high standards of insulation & air-tightness in the technical design of our buildings. In addition to this, the application of smart technology & energy management is also considered an important measure in improving environmental credentials.
The careful selection of materials is also of great importance in the design process, & to this end we are always mindful of the embodied energy (energy required in manufacture and transport) of materials used in the construction of buildings designed by this practice.
This office also has a keen interest in the application of passive solar design & the use of emerging water heating & heat exchange technology and has established relationships with engineering consultancies in order to investigate & pursue together innovative design solutions incorporating new & sustainable design technologies.
